Weekend Bingeing or Re-Bingeing?
Bingeing or binging? Who cares.
"How To Die Alone" is about Mel, a ray of sunshine despite all the bullshit she's been putting up with her entire life (much of it self-inflicted as a passive doormat type — very "you teach others how to treat you by how you treat yourself"). After a near-death experience, she takes her life by the reigns: making a few bad decisions, speaking up for herself against people who had done her dirty, and exercising her free will — she, along the viewer is reminded that life is a mess and we are the ones in control, whether the choices we make and their outcomes are good or bad. I felt like I could really relate to her — so I'm sad this series wasn't renewed for a second season.
It's only 8 episodes, so worth a weekend watch!
Not only do I just love this show — the soundtrack is insane. Using songs by Nappy Roots, Whitesnake, Lady Saw, Luther Vandross, Radiohead, and more to depict moments in life happening... makes a beautiful mix.
UPDATES —
Big Mouth: I honestly don't remember if I finished this, it eventually became background noise to my work day. I was interested in it at first but it didn't keep my attention.
The Legend of Kitchen Soldier: LOVING THIS. It's refreshing in a absurdly funny manner and shows a very unique way of experiencing grief — as a virtual reality game. Only the lead character (Kang Sang-Jae) can see the prompts, quests, and his experience levels but everyone who tastes his food is hilariously transported into a euphoric daze. Sort of like Cooking Mama but in a Korean Army setting with a bunch of storylines to follow.
